Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Introduces Legislation That Includes a One-Year Delay in Cadillac Tax Effective Date

Today, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee introduced tax legislation that includes a one-year delay in the effective date of the excise tax on high-cost employer health coverage to tax years beginning after December 31, 2023.  The press release from the committee is  here

While the timing of Committee action on the bill has not yet been announced, it is highly likely that the Committee and the full House of Representatives will act on the bill before the House recesses for the year.

It is unclear, however, whether the Senate will take up this legislation as Senate Democrats are not interested in addressing tax issues at the end of the year and their support is needed for the legislation to move forward in the Senate.

We will keep membership informed of the progress of this legislation in Congress.
